Metrics are easy to measure when defining how much money will be spent or how many widgets are shipped, but Information Management KPIs can appear to be a bit less tangible making it more difficult to quantify goals and show success. The key is to make the “Intangible” activity a “Tangible” measurable. It is also imperative to ensure your KPI goals are items that stakeholders can identify with and are in line with organizational goals. I recommend a 3-step approach.
Step 1: Identify the enterprise KPIs. Which of these goals can be impacted by the Information Management team?
Step 2: Evaluation each of the IM pillars, identify stakeholder pain points and turn these into measurable improvement activities.
Step 3: Select the 3-5 items from Step 2 that will impact KPIs from Step 1. Make your selections based on the enterprise goals.
Information Management can impact cost saving, time saving, and simplification goals for the entire organization. Once you identify your KPIs, create a great visual aide depicting your goals and progress towards achieving them.
